The City of Aurangabad is headquarters of Aurangabad district. It is located in South Central Maharashtra which is known as Marathwada Region. Aurangabad is also the Divisional headquarters and important city of the state. It features on the world tourist map as it is the nodal point to visit the famous Ajanta and Ellora caves. Aurangabad is situated on the banks of the River Kham a tributary of the Godavari River . The entire City is situated at the latitude of 19053'50" north and longitude of 75022'46" east. Aurangabad sits in a strategic position on the Decaan Plateau. The city is surrounded by hills of the Vindhya Ranges and the River Kham passes through it. The city stands in the Dudhana valley between Lakenvara range on the north and Satara hills on the south. The valley has a general breadth of about 10 miles is open towards the east, but on the west, the northern range deflects and curves in towards the city sending a spur close upon its suburbs. Along the centre it deepens. Thus city occupies very uneven ground.
Aurangabad City is located at 19 0 53 ' North Latitude 75 0 22'East Longitude. The city is situated in south eastern part of the district. It is well connected by road to Mumbai (497 Km) and Pune (350 Km). It falls on the Manmad – Secundrabad section of the South Central Railway and is well connected by rail to different parts of the country.
Aurangabad also has an airport with direct flights to Mumbai, Pune, New Delhi and other cities of the country.
